Children are at the heart of our academy. This statement sets out our promise to protect every child who trains with us and to give parents complete confidence in our kids' and juniors' classes.
Concerns about a child should go straight to our Designated Safeguarding Lead, Brad Cuffy, or our UKBJJA-qualified Safeguarding Officer, Gary Briggs, on help@brazillianjiujitsu.com or 07516 999615.
Our promise to children and parents
We are committed to providing a safe, positive and welcoming environment for all children. We recognise that the welfare of the child is paramount and that every child has the right to protection from harm.
- We put the wellbeing and safety of every child first.
- We listen to children and take what they say seriously.
- We make sure children know who they can talk to if they are worried.
- We work openly with parents and carers at all times.
Safer practice in class
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo involve close contact. We manage this carefully so that training stays safe and appropriate for young people.
- Coaches explain techniques clearly and supervise all sparring.
- Physical contact is always for coaching purposes, never anything else.
- We avoid being alone with a child wherever possible.
- Changing, photography and social media use follow our wider policies.
- Coaches who work with children are DBS checked where required.
Trained and trusted coaches
Our coaches are selected through a safe recruitment process and complete recognised safeguarding training, including the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport e-learning. Our Safeguarding Officer, Gary Briggs, is qualified through the UK Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association (UKBJJA). We affiliate to an IBJJF-recognised Jiu-Jitsu federation, the UKBJJA and British Judo.
