Code of Conduct

A great academy is built on respect. This code of conduct sets out the standards of behaviour we expect from everyone in our community, on and off the mats. It helps keep training safe, friendly and enjoyable for all.

Our core values

• Respect for coaches, training partners, staff and yourself.
• Safety first, in every drill, roll and competition.
• Humility in victory and grace in defeat.
• Inclusion, so everyone feels welcome regardless of background or ability.

All members will

• Arrive on time, in clean kit, with good personal hygiene and trimmed nails.
• Follow the coach's instructions and train with control.
• Tap early and respect a training partner's tap immediately.
• Look after younger and newer members and help them feel welcome.
• Report injuries and concerns to a coach straight away.

All members will not

• Use aggression, intimidation, bullying or discriminatory language.
• Train under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• Apply techniques recklessly or ignore a tap.
• Bring the academy into disrepute, including on social media.

Coaches will

• Put the welfare and safety of members first at all times.
• Coach fairly, patiently and within their qualifications.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries and follow our safeguarding policy.
• Lead by example and uphold the values of the academy.

Parents and carers will

• Support and encourage their child positively.
• Respect coaches' decisions and the academy's rules.
• Arrive and collect their child on time.
• Raise any concern calmly and through the right channels.

If the code is broken

Where this code is not followed, a coach may give a reminder, a warning or, in serious cases, suspend or remove a member. Serious safeguarding concerns are handled under our Safeguarding Policy.
